ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS with a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise.
The Division publishes 85+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community.
In its endeavor for a wider outreach and expansion across the globe, ACSI is rapidly expanding its global presence in key markets.
We are seeking a Regional Sales Manager (RSM) to join our Publications Sales Team, covering France, Benelux and Northern Africa Academic and Government markets.
Part of the larger Sales & Marketing Department, the Sales Manager is responsible for implementing strategies, promoting ACS products, and driving revenue growth and recommending marketing directions within the assigned territories to strengthen ACS’s position in the scientific publishing marketplace.
Position Summary
The Regional Sales Manager will manage ACS Publications’ academic, and government institutional customers in the assigned region and will identify and grow the customer base within these regions.
This role supports the EMEA team’s annual revenue and operating goals by driving growth from new and existing customers.
Key responsibilities include expanding ACS’s footprint through a diverse portfolio of products and services—scientific journals, eBooks, reference materials, and open access offerings.
Building strong relationships is essential, particularly to support the evolving publishing landscape and ACS’s Open Access solutions.
The ability to engage with and influence senior level decision makers is essential as is the ability to think strategically and independently when needed.
Fluency in French (verbal and written) is also essential for this role.
The RSM will also represent ACS at sponsored events and industry programs within the region, strengthening customer connections and market presence.
This position reports to one of two Regional Sales Managers.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proven sales success, knowledge of the scientific publishing industry, and an appreciation for the value of high-quality journals.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve or exceed annual regional and territory revenue targets.
- Develop, present, and execute an annual sales strategy for the assigned region.
- Design and implement sales campaigns in collaboration with marketing teams to increase visibility and strengthen institutional relationships.
- Prospect actively for new business and support strategies across all market segments.
- Promote ACS content to new audiences and expand product reach.
- Participate in local sales and marketing activities, including sponsorships, roadshows, customer events, and exhibits.
- Prepare reports for ACS management, including forecasts, pipelines, market overviews, and product launch plans.
- Follow established sales processes to ensure efficient pipeline and lead management.
- Stay current on ACS products, industry trends, and competitor activities.
- Build strong networks with academic, and government library leadership and staff.
- Apply consultative sales skills to foster positive, mutually beneficial relationships.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of publication and/or database sales experience targeting STEM-focused universities and government markets.
- Experience selling beyond libraries, engaging directly with faculty, corporate, and government customers, including committee-level interactions.
- Exceptional presentation skills, both virtual and in-person.
- Strong decision-making ability and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent organizational and CRM expertise, with experience using data to identify opportunities and support customer needs.
- Fluency in French (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to collaborate across geographies to achieve shared objectives.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% and accommodate occasional off-hours meetings with global teams.
